was established in the mid-1970s, originally as a representative body for Sudanese doctors who were being sent by the Sudanese government to the UK and Ireland for postgraduate training.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 1985, the union was re-introduced in its current format and became a member of the Sudan Doctors Union (SDU) following the historic general assembly of November 1985, a few months after the April uprising in Sudan. At that meeting, Dr Elkhatim Elyas (Elaies) was elected as President of the Union.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">In 2010, Sudanese doctors in the Republic of Ireland established their independent entity known as the Sudanese Doctors Union of Ireland (SDUI); the SDU-UK amended its constitution in 2017 to reflect this change.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">For more than 35 years, our union has represented and brought together generations of Sudanese doctors living in the UK while preserving a great legacy of commitment and dedication to its mission and goals.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Previous Next The Sudan Doctors Union &#8211; UK Branch (SDU-UK) was established in the mid-1970s, originally as a representative body for Sudanese doctors who were being sent by the Sudanese government to the UK and Ireland for postgraduate training.
