”Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
— Martin Luther King Jr.
El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, is currently experiencing intense violence due to ongoing hostilities between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict, which started in April 2023, has spiralled, leading to a dire humanitarian crisis in the city.
Recent reports indicate that the situation in El Fasher has deteriorated significantly. The city is under siege, leading to severe food, water, and medicine shortages. Prices of essential commodities have skyrocketed, putting many civilians at risk of starvation and disease.
This situation has forced many residents and internally displaced citizens to flee or face severe hardships. The ongoing conflict risks sparking further intercommunal violence and could result in a large-scale massacre.
We, the Sudan Doctors Union – UK, condemn these actions and express our grave concern at reports of devastating violence in and around El Fasher, with civilians caught in the crossfire, calling for immediate cessation of violence and accountability for those responsible.
As the union always stress, these atrocities underscore the urgent need for a peaceful conflict resolution and the protection of innocent lives in Sudan.
