UK Government scraps the NHS surcharge for immigrant NHS care workers

Following a campaign by the SDU UK and other organisations to scrap the Immigration Health Surcharge imposed on immigrant NHS doctors in the UK, the government has responded by waiving the aforementioned surcharge for all NHS care workers.

The SDU-UK sent a letter to the Health Secretary on the 13th of April highlighting the struggle of our members who have been negatively affected by the surcharge. We also forwarded the letter to the foreign office-Sudan desk and his excellency special envoy to Sudan and raised the concerns in several media platforms including the BBC.

This is excellent news and we are pleased and grateful for this positive outcome. We will continue to closely monitor the implementation of the government’s decision and respond appropriately to any shortfalls if the need arises for us to do so.
