North Darfur was one of Sudan’s hardest-hit regions during the COVID-19 epidemic. Unfortunately, the area still relies on oxygen supplies transported from the capital, Khartoum, some 1,000 kilometres away.
The much-needed project will be established at El-Fashir Teaching Hospital, which serves a population of approximately 3 million, of whom 64,000 are internally displaced.
The aim is to install a local oxygen generation station with an oxygen cylinder filling system and a supplementary pipeline network. The total cost of the project is approximately £120,000.
The project will be managed by the SDU-UK in collaboration with the El-Fashir hospital administration, local authorities and the Association of Sudanese Medical Engineers in the UK (acting as the technical support team).
