The senseless war in Sudan now entering its 5th week has caused incalculable devastation to its already fragile healthcare system. For the hundreds of civilian lives lost in random shootings and air strikes, many more have died unable to access care.

The Sudan Doctors’ Union UK (SDU-UK) extends this invitation to a press conference, taking place at:

The Djam Lecture Theatre, SOAS University
On Tuesday May 16, at 7:00PM (GMT+1).

This will provide an update on the current crisis including health situation in Sudan and share the experience of evacuees to Britain.

Several key speakers are attending in person from the UK and others joining via Zoom link from Sudan. Speakers will delve into different facets of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. They will share their insights and perspectives on the current health situation in the country, the challenges faced by healthcare workers, and share the experience of evacuees, and the role played by Sudanese bodies in the diaspora.

The keynote speakers are:
1- Dr. Ahmed Elleithi, President of SDU-UK.
2- Dr. Mohamed Nugud, on behalf of Sudan’s Ministry of Health.
3- Dr. Ahmed Abbas, spokesperson for the preliminary committee of Sudan Doctors’ Union.
4- Dr. Mayada Abu Affan, NHS public health consultant, head of SIG Public Health
5- Closing remarks will be delivered by Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, Sudan’s acting Minister of Health.

The presentations will be followed by a Q&A session where members of the press can direct questions to the speakers.
We hope that you will be able to attend this important event for an insight into Sudan’s current crisis.

Please let us know if you plan to attend and if you had any questions that you would like to submit in advance. We will reserve a seat for you.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Sincerely,

Executive Committee,
